Project #2: Peanut Gravy & Nasi Impit
Queen of the house is not around... missing her so much... :(
So... Eid Al-Adha this year, 'Rusty Cook' (me) has to take over. In take over, I mean jump... As I often heard, when you have to jump, you ask how high?
But, that's not the question that I asked myself because I have no plan of jumping so high... hihihiiii... For Eid Al-Adha this year, I, the Rusty Cook decided to make spaghetti... lalalaaaaaa...
A few friends remarked, 'you think you're celebrating x'mas?'... hihihihiiii... Not!
I went with my spaghetti plan even though spaghetti is not a usual Eid's meal... I have to thank my supportive family and friends who supported this idea :) It is true a 'mat saleh' Muslim do celebrate Eid with Spaghetti... such comfort to hear that :)
OMG! I definitely need to learn to cook more meals... especially festive ones...
Since I'm not a 'mat saleh', I know I must make an effort to make Eid Al-Adha feels like a celebration, Malay style. So, I added 'Peanut Gravy' with 'Nasi Impit' to the menu. Where did I get the recipe? From memory... years of observing Queen of the House made the gravy has finally paid off tonight. But the recipe for my gravy, I mixed it with Queen's and my auntie's... who are both excellent cooks.
Verdict:

Ingredients for the gravy:
Peanut (of course), onions, garlics, dried chilli, ginger, galangal, lemongrass, tamarind, palm sugar & minced meat.
Wash the peanut & fry it... until it becomes brownish... not blackish :)
The result... tadaaaaaa...
such an unflattering picture... such injustice :P
I used instant 'Nasi Impit'... coz it's the trend now... Yeah right! I don't know how to make the not instant one! There... I admitted it :P
Instant 'Nasi Impit'... before...
after...
Verdict:
- Spaghetti bolognaise --> tastier! nyum nyummm...
- Peanut gravy --> nyum nyummm... no doubt... I had to cook for 2nd round...

Project #1: Spaghetti Bolognaise
Menu:
Requested by:
Recipe:
I don't know how to make mushroom soup from scratch... not yet. For now, instant Campbell's mushroom soup will do.
Notice the dried chili? heheheeee... I have to adjust this recipe a bit because if it's not hot, it's not tasty.
After about an hour plus of chopping (yup, it took me that long...), the preparation was ready.
Verdict:
Overall verdict:
Rusty cook very happy. Nervously plan for the next project :)
- Spaghetti Bolognaise
- Garlic bread with topping
- Mushroom soup
- Happy food
- Sirap lemon
Requested by:
- Queen of the house who despite of my poor cooking skill, still has the guts to ask me to cook... daring betul nih! heheheeee...
Recipe:
- Spaghetti Bolognaise --> http://www.myresipi.com/top/detail/728
- Garlic bread with topping --> ready made baguettes @ Cold Storage. The toppings, I used my imagination, but I get the idea from the movie 'Julie & Julia'. The way Julie's husband ate that bread, made me drool.
- Mushroom soup --> instant laaaa... Campbell's.
- Happy food --> from AFC. Very yummy yummy yummy! Happy happy happy!
- Sirap lemon --> I have a lot of lemon left... so it went into the sirap... heheheeee...

Bolognaise sauce... cooking in progress
Bolognaise sauce... done!
This pic not flattering la... but, I tell you, it smell so goooood... look a bit like asam pedas right? Fusion :)
Topping --> my own recipe. A mix of tomato, a bit of capsicum, parsley, minced meat fried with butter and a few drops of lemon juice... I think those who loves western food will like this... it taste fresh, mildly sweet & sour.
My yummy happy food! Popiah wrap with peanut butter, banana & chocolate... deep fry!
Courtesy of that chef in AFC... I forgot his name.
- Spaghetti Bolognaise - Good! At first, salt & sugar not to taste... rusty cook masak time puasa, inilah jadinya. But, after modification, voila! A yummy fusion spaghetti bolognaise... heheheeee...
- Garlic bread with topping - 50-50... would be better if the bread was hot.
- Mushroom soup - no no no... must learn to make mushroom soup... the instant one, not compliant to our taste bud.
- Happy food - yummy yummy yummy! happy happy happy!
- Sirap lemon- very tasty! very refreshing! A real suitable drink for buka puasa.
Overall verdict:
Rusty cook very happy. Nervously plan for the next project :)
